June-Young Lee, PhD
Dr. June-Young Lee is a media specialist and communication lecturer with broadcast journalism careers and a commercial pilot instrument rated. He began his journalism career as a city desk reporter with KNN in Busan, Korea 2011. Also, he produced and hosted an investigative reporting program, ‘Into the World with June-Young Lee,’ covering illegal oil sales, mobile business touting, useless bike paths, etc.
After two years, he moved to Channel A in Seoul, Korea, and worked as a city desk reporter. His investigations focused on government and business corruption. He joined the Dong-Ah Daily Newspaper & Channel A task force team for cabinet candidate verification and reported on the moral hazard of candidates. He also produced a series of reports on tax evasion linked to former presidents of Korea: Doo-Hwan Chun & Tae-Woo Roh, and leaders of conglomerates such as CJ and SK. As a business desk reporter, Dr. Lee had written about safety issues of airlines in Korea – Asiana Airlines ignoring safety warnings & Korean Air’s ‘nut rage’ scandal.
Also, he worked for YTN as a city desk reporter covering the Gangnam area in Seoul and as a program director(PD) for three years. He operated the control room and directed staff for a daily news show titled NEWSTONG as the leading producer. Since 2021, he has worked for The University of Utah Asia Campus in Songdo, Incheon, Korea, as the Assistant Professor Lecturer of Journalism at the Department of Communication.
Dr. Lee first received a Bachelor of Arts (BA) in English-Korean Interpretation and Translation from Hankuk University of Foreign Studies in Korea. While transitioning to more professional and teaching responsibilities, he received a Master of Arts (MA) in Multimedia Communication at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco, CA, and a Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D.) degree at Incheon National University in Korea. Receiving the Chancellor’s Recognition Award, his Ph.D. degree examined disaster coverage in broadcast news, focusing on Itaewon Halloween crowd crush coverage.
The investigative news reporting article “People Who Want to Fly” written by Dr. Lee was the winner of the in-depth feature article contest held by HANKUK ILBO(The Korean Daily Newspaper). Also, he wrote an essay about his life at Riverside Flight Center, a flight school in OK.
